Belly Dancing… Fun and Healthy… Really!

Belly Dancing for ExerciseI know this topic may seem a bit out of left field for me, but to be honest sometimes we need a little mixing up.

When it comes to exercise, don’t you ever get bored with your routine? The same gym, the same equipment, the same DVD…

whatever it is you do to exercise, don’t let it get stale!

This is important for two reasons:

  1. If you become bored with your workout, you’ll be more likely to not give full effort, cut corners or just start skipping it all together.
  2. It’s not just your mind that gets bored, your muscles do too. Its called muscle memory. Basically, it means your muscles becomes very good at doing the same movements over and over, and thus don’t have to exert as much effort as they used to. This means your workout will become less effective in increasing your heart rate and burning calories.

And this is where belly dancing comes in… Doing something completely different to wake up your body, mind and soul. Trying something new often makes us feel brave, happy, excited and refreshed.

Benefits of Belly Dancing

Belly Dancing is Good for your Mind, Too!

It may sound silly or easy, but I promise mixing it up and trying something new will shock you and your body with how much harder the new movements are… and what a great workout you are actually getting!

Plus… you’ll have some pretty fun and sexy new dance moves!

Honestly, any new exercise routine or dance movement will affect you the same way, but I’m chosing to highlight belly dancing because I feel it makes my point very clearly.

The Benefits of Belly Dancing:

  • You utilize muscle groups in the abdomen, pelvis, trunk, spine, and neck, working with the body instead of against it. Belly dancing is designed to work with a woman’s natural body movements, so any risks of injury are minimal.
  • Improved posture and muscle toning.
  • The repetitive rhythms and movements help reduce stress – meaning reduced cortisol, which means less belly fat storage!
  • Belly dancing has been shown to aid in digestion.
  • It’s fun and you will smile!

So break out of your dull gym routine and try it. I promise you will walk away laughing, smiling and sweating!

About modernhealthproject

Hi there! This is my little blog project where I am trying to learn more about health, wellness and living a balanced life, while also sharing a bit of my silly side as well. By "silly" I mean sarcastic. And by "a bit" I mean way too much. Sorry about that.♥ - Anna
