Deck the Halls with Exhaustion

Hey there, old internet friends. Is it OK to feel guilty about not updating one’s blog on the regular? I tend to pace 2-3 posts a week, depending on how the toddler rearing is going. Happy kid + long nap times = much blogging. But add in extended family, Thanksgiving, Christmas set up, car shopping (more on that later) and wow! I suddenly feel like I am calling my best friend after a whirlwind of a week and have so much to catch up on that it almost feels impossible.

Since very few are voyeuristic enough to care about the small details, I will offer a quick list of Anna’s Thanksgiving Activities, 2013 edition.

-We went camping in the Florida Keys right before Thanksgiving. It rained but we still have fun.

– My brother and sister in law hosted Thanksgiving dinner at their new house with 13 adults, 1 toddler and 3 dogs. It was one of the most enjoyable and just purely happy Thanksgivings I can remember.

– I made my most favorite bacon cheddar deviled egg recipes.

Yes, you heard me right, BACON. Mmmmm. I got the recipe off of allrecipes.com ages ago. It’s pretty much been an annual tradition ever since. Click here, and then email me when you’ve decided I am your new best frenemy for introducing this delicious devil into your life (see what I did there?)

– My mother in law stayed with us for Thanksgiving weekend and got to smooch all over her adorable grandson.

– The day after Thanksgiving, the day which shall not be named, we had an inpromptu, secondary Thanksgiving at our house. But instead of homemade deliciousness, we had shame filled pizza and zeppolis. Oh, the indignity (all you toddler parents just read that in the voice of Gordon didn’t you?).

You probably gained a pound just by looking at this. Sorry!

And then, what I can only call a game tempting the very foundation of our familial peace, we played Cards Against Humanity. (What is Cards Against Humanity? “Unlike most of the party games you’ve played before, Cards Against Humanity is as despicable and awkward as you and your friends.”) ALL OF US PLAYED. Me, my brother, our parents, my husband, his mom, my sister in law and her parents… kids and parents together, in a room, playing Cards Against Humanity.

What happened next amazed me. Us 30-something “kids” were afraid of offending our respected elders when out of nowhere, HOLY CRAP did they let loose on us. The disturbing, dark, perverted and ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS things that came out of our parent’s minds literally turned us red and had us crying from laughing so hard.

Example I stole off of Google since I was in too much shock to take photos of my own.

You don’t know your parents until you play this game with them. It is NOT for the faint of heart, or those kind souls among us who do not fall down so low in the gutter. However, if you do choose to play, you should know that while you will learn how to simultaneously cringe and laugh until you can’t breathe, the next day will be filled with dodging your reflection in the mirror so as not to look yourself in the eye, and periodically thinking, “I can’t believe my brother made me read: ‘What’s that smell? The primal, ball-slapping sex your parents are having right now,’ out loud, in front of my parents.”

The only solution is to quickly distract yourself with Christmas decorating in order to shake that image.

PS (Can you do a PS in a blog?): I just read this and am now even more in awe of this game: “Cards Against Humanity holds reverse Black Friday ‘sale’ by charging extra“. My kind of people!

About Anna

Hi there! This is my little blog project where I am trying to learn more about health, wellness and living a balanced life, while also sharing a bit of my silly side as well. By "silly" I mean sarcastic. And by "a bit" I mean way too much. Sorry about that.♥ - Anna
