Feeling Overweight and Tired?

Feeling overweight and tired just about describes all of us at one time or another.

But, as usual, when it comes to our health, we are not helpless! Carrying extra weight and feeling exhausted are linked together and cause a vicious cycle. When you are at work and exhausted what is the first thing you most likely do? SNACK… And because you are so burned out, your body will naturally crave carbs as they offer the quickest boost of energy to your system.

Carbs also do something else – they add to your fat storage.

… Unless you are about to run a marathon, you do not need to load up on carbohydrates. They will only be stored in your system as fat. But if you are always tired? What can you do? Well, there are many things:

Exercise:

Getting your heart rate up at least for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week is ideal, but if this goal overwhelms you, then set a new one. Any exercise is better than none. Start small and work your way up. … You can do a brisk walk, jog or climb some stairs. After your stamina builds up, add some weight, or just do squats. Small changes can add up and ANY activity is better than none!

Eat better:

Avoid empty carbs and processed foods. Again, you don’t have to do a complete lifestyle overhaul, as these dramatic changes usually don’t last… Just start chipping away. Substitute one processed meal with a fresh salad once a week…. then build on that. Reduce the amount of carbs you eat slowly, while increasing your lean protein intake.

Drink enough water:

Hydration is important for every process of your body. Not having enough water in your system directly correlates with both exhaustion and weight gain! 6-8 glasses a day is still recommended, based on your size. Keep in mind that caffeinated beverages work against your hydration as they are diuretics, meaning they stimulate your body to get rid of fluids. So if you are drinking tons of caffeine, either cut back, or add even more water to your daily intake.
