summer tanTan, glowing and healthy summer skin is always in! However, please don’t get caught up in a short-term beauty routine that could actually lead to long term skin damage and potential health problems!

Yes, we would all love to lay out in the sun all day, lathered in tanning oil and soaking up the sun’s glorious rays. Nothing says summer fun and fashion quite like a great tan…

But what about later – when all that UV damage catches up to you?

Did you know that 80% of skin damage and wrinkling is due to the sun’s rays? 80 percent!

Did you also know that getting a sunburn, just once every 2 years, can triple your risk of melanoma skin cancer?

Over Exposure to the Sun Causes:

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Age spots
  • Freckles
  • Thick, dry skin
  • Skin discolorations
  • Actinic Keratoses, which are scaly red patches signaling a possible beginning of skin cancer
  • An increased risk of melanoma (life-threatening)
  • Cataracts
  • Weakened immune system

None of these are considered cute or a great summer look!

It’s time to consider breaking the cycle of sun damage. Fortunately, there are many ways to protect and repair your skin as well as beauty techniques that will give you that sun kissed look without a side of premature aging and cancer.

Best Ways to Protect Your Skin from Sun Damage

  • Avoid over exposure, obviously! Limit your time in the sun and ALWAYS wear SPF sunscreen of 30 or higher when in the sun, even if exposure is a little as 15 minutes.
  •  Wear protective clothing and accessories like a hat, polarized sunglasses, and clothing that blocks UV rays, known as UPF clothing.
  • Protect and moisturize your lips with an SPF chap stick.
  • Always wear sunscreen – Yes, we are saying it again because it’s your number one defense against sun damage! Wear, reapply and reapply again!

Don’t forget the kids! Sure, tan kids are cute, but most major sun damage as well as increase in cancer risk starts from exposure under the age of 11! Protect them now while you can by always applying sunscreen of SPF 50 or higher ANY time they will be in the sun!

Reverse Damage, Protect and Enhance Your Skin

Yes! You can have gorgeous skin without sun exposure!

Try using self tanner and skin bronzer. They have come a long away and no longer leave you looking orange. Many higher-end skin and facial bronzing/tanning lotions or sprays smell great, don’t stain, and give you a convincing tan! self tanner

You can also take a supplement that support skin health by both reversing and preventing damage! A reputable complexation replenishment supplement will reduce fine lines and prevent new wrinkles from forming, as well as support a healthy skin tone, skin elasticity and health by providing the right kind of antioxidants and vitamins.

Exfoliate and hydrate to get rid of the damaged outer layers of skin and support the formation of soft, supple skin.

Visit a dermatologist who can bleach any brown sun spots, remove any formed moles and use a light-emitting diode which promotes the production of collagen and reduce wrinkles and acne.

Hopefully you now get how important it is to protect your skin from the sun to keep aging at bay and reduce the risk of various forms of skin cancer! Yes, sporting a summer tan can be awesome, but the side-effects are not! Consider a proven self-tanner or go to a spray-tan salon to get the same look without the horrible risks. Take care of that skin if you don’t want to prematurely age!

Hi there! This is my little blog project where I am trying to learn more about health, wellness and living a balanced life, while also sharing a bit of my silly side as well. By "silly" I mean sarcastic. And by "a bit" I mean way too much. Sorry about that.♥ - Anna
