Detoxing is a great way to cleanse your body of unwanted toxins – free radicals, heavy medals, chemicals, pesticides, and other environmental pollutants. If not regularly cleansed from your system, these toxins contribute to sickness, chronic diseases, premature aging and a weakened mental/emotional state.

Basically, if left unchecked, these unwanted toxins will disrupt your body starting at the cellular level then snowballing into larger, long term health issues.

It is for this reason that regularly detoxing our body is so vital for optimum health and function.

In addition to purifying the body of toxins, a proper detox can also boost your immune system and in some cases even help shed a few extra pounds, since a well functioning body has a healthier metabolism.

Which detox types are best?

It depends. There are different detoxes that work well for different scenarios.

Here is a breakdown of the top 3 detox types and why they are so popular:

  1. Detox Smoothies/Diets
    • These detox specific diets tend to last 1-3 days and usually call for a complete overhaul of your daily eating routines. Some diets use specific smoothies that you can make at home. They are usually loaded full of nutrient dense super foods that pump your body full of antioxidants, vitamins, and digestive aids that all work together to help your body collect and eliminate toxins.
    • This detox method is fantastic as it breaks any bad food habits you may have and loads your body full of healthy foods. Some struggle however, since these smoothies or specific food recipes can be time consuming and expensive to make. They may end up leaving you hungry and unsatisfied for the duration of the detox as well.
    • Here is a popular 3 day detox plan from Dr. Oz that is great for both beginners and seasoned detox lovers: Dr. Oz’s 3-Day Detox Cleanse
  2. Detox Patches
    • Detox patches use a natural, holistic approach to purifying the body. They are actual patches that contain  a variety of ingredients like wood vinegar, plants, herbs and tourmaline which work to physically pull toxins from the body while you sleep. They are usually applied to the soles of your feet (1-2 times a week) as there are meridians there that directly connect the soles to the rest of the body.
    • The perk of this method is its simplicity. There are no recipes or smoothies to make, or disruption of your daily routines. Patches are also rather affordable too, and can end up costing less than other detox methods.

  3. Detox Specific Supplements
    • There are a large amount of supplements available on the market that can be used to detox the body from the inside out.
    • The perk with supplements is that detoxing can be as easy as swallowing a couple of pills a day. The con however, is that it can take a while for supplements to work, and you basically always have to be taking them for maximum results. The cost for a quality detox supplement can also be pretty high.

Regardless of which detox method you chose, it is very important to periodically take the time to purify your body! We are exposed to so many toxins every day; if we don’t make an effort to rid them from our body, our health and quality of life will suffer!

About modernhealthproject

Hi there! This is my little blog project where I am trying to learn more about health, wellness and living a balanced life, while also sharing a bit of my silly side as well. By "silly" I mean sarcastic. And by "a bit" I mean way too much. Sorry about that.♥ - Anna
