Low Calorie Snacks You’ll Love!

healthy snackinFun fact: the number one downfall of a healthy diet is not cheating on meals, giving up, or binging on desserts… it’s snacking!

Yes, snacking is the quiet devil among us!

A recent survey confirmed that the majority of those starting a new diet, or simply trying to eat clean and healthy report that their biggest struggle and area of weakness is snacking.

Why is snacking so sinister?

There are 2 main reasons why snacking can de-rail you

First, snacking isn’t a “real” meal, it’s just a small nutritional pick-me-up… at least, that’s what its supposed to be! But all too often snacking is assumed to be harmless, and if you’re gonna eat 3 healthy meals a day, whats wrong with having a small snack of chips or french fries… it’s just a snack! This is faulty reasoning that will quickly squash your healthy goals!

Second, snacking needs to be quick and easy… that’s basically the definition of a snack! How many healthy, well-rounded and nutritionally complete snacks do you know of that are also quick and easy to make, store and eat? Not many… and there is the pitfall.

bad snacks

Healthy snacking is hard, but it is essential to staying on track with your weight loss and nutritional goals.

Here are some quick, healthy snack ideas that are actually do-able in a fast-paced lifestyle… and still delicious!

These snacks won’t fuel a sugar addiction, leave you still hungry, or fill you full of empty carbs with zero nutrition. By replacing chips, pretzels, vending machine snacks, sugary coffee drinks, donuts, and other unhealthy “treats”, you will notice a quick change in your ability to resist bad cravings and stay on track with your diet.

Here is a list of healthy, delicious, and easy snacks:

  • Nut butter and Banana
  • String cheese
  • Non-fat, no sugar added yogurt and fruit (like blueberries or strawberries)
  • Carrots and/or sliced cucumbers with hummus or low-fat Ranch (go easy on the Ranch though!)
  • Beef Jerky
  • A palm full of roasted almonds or walnuts with some cheese
  • Cottage cheese
  • Fresh fruit: grapes, sliced apple, strawberries, melon, banana, blueberries, etc.
