Today, we would like to propose a blend of 2 of our most favorite things: health and FUN.

We preach a lot here about health, wellness, proper weight loss, beauty, nutrition, supplements and more…

Well, we did it…

The perfect Guilt-Free Summer Cocktail!

The criteria for this cocktail was simple: it needed to be refreshing, light and also contain a good dose of super-foods as well. The result? SUPER YUMMY!watermelon basil lime

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 small, organic, watermelon, cubed
  • 3 large organic basil leaves
  • Juice of 1 organic lime
  • 3/4 cup of agave syrup
  • 1/2 cup of gin

Crush the basil leaves at the bottom of a shaker, and add in the lime juice and gin. Seal and shake vigorously. In a blender add all other ingredients, and then pour the contents of the shaker through a strainer into the blender. Blend until smooth. Serve in a glass with a sprig of basil and a small slice of watermelon as garnish.

Why is this cocktail so great?

Beyond being delicious, its ingredients actually pack a nutritional punch.

Watermelon is not just refreshing and hydrating, it also contains large amounts of vitamins A, B6 and C, lycopene, other antioxidants and amino acids. It also has potassium as well.

Basil is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and full of vitamin K and vitamin A, both of which greatly promote heart health and bone strength.

The acidity of lime helps promote healthy digestion and stop constipation. Its large amount of vitamin C also helps ward off illness and and can aid in weight loss by helping the body absorb calcium in its fat cells, which helps battle the bulge.

So there you have it, a delicious and nutritious summer drink that isn’t even that hard to make!

All we have left to do is label this guilt-free delight. What do you think? BasilMellonNumNum? The Summer Refresher? The “I’ll Have Another, Please?”

Maybe the name doesn’t matter.

What matters is that sometimes taking a timeout to just enjoy the moment you are in, maybe with friends or family, out in the summer heat, living life and having fun – maybe in that moment enjoying a nice, refreshing cocktail is actually a pretty healthy thing to do to nourish your mental health, spirit or whatever you want to call it. Life is hard. Staying healthy while juggling so many balls is hard too. A nice, refreshing cocktail may end up refreshing more than just your palate, maybe it can help you relax and unwind for a moment this summer too – especially if that cocktail also delivers some powerful health benefits! It’s a win-win!

Hi there! This is my little blog project where I am trying to learn more about health, wellness and living a balanced life, while also sharing a bit of my silly side as well. By "silly" I mean sarcastic. And by "a bit" I mean way too much. Sorry about that.♥ - Anna
