Why Added Sugar is the Absolute Worst

Side effects of sugarSugar may be a magical ingredient that makes everything delicious and always satisfies that nagging sweet tooth, but let’s be real here… it is not to be trusted in any form. Sugar is not our friend and certainly not “sweet” once you get to know it. In fact, sugar is the opposite of sweet – it reigns pure terror and havoc on our bodies and health!

While that statement may sound dramatic, trust us – it’s not!

There is an ever-growing list of all the terrible things that happen to us when we eat too much sugar (which we all do, because sugar is in everything these days, from coffee to bread to processed foods and condiments!)

A Plethora of Reasons to Avoid Sugar

  • Sugar causes insulin resistance, the first step towards metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Insulin is a very important hormone in the body and when no longer produced at proper levels our health quickly deteriorates into Type 2 diabetes.
  • It damages your liver. Just like alcohol (which contains sugar!) your liver has to process all that fructose and if overloaded it can wear out and no longer function properly.
  • Sugar is the leading cause of obesity and is greatly to blame for today’s explosively high number of obese adults and children. We all know obesity leads to a laundry list of health problems.
  • It increases your risk of heart and kidney disease by raising uric acid levels. In fact, if these levels test too high, the refer to it as fructose toxicity!
  • Sugar is literally addictive. Multiple studies demonstrate that people can be biologically addicted to sugar in the same way we can be addicted to heroin, cocaine or nicotine. This means, like an addict, we will make poor food or diet choices in order to satisfy that addictive need.sugar addiction
  • It contributes to inflammation. Sugar has a negative reaction with cell proteins, causing superoxide free radicals to form. These free radicals cause internal inflammation which leads to chronic pain and disease.
  • Sugar increases your risk for cancer. Fructose feeds cancer cells and helps them multiply at a faster rate.
  • It can also increase your risk for Alzheimer’s. New research is showing this disease may be caused by the constant burning of glucose for fuel by your brain.

To be honest this list is just the tip of the iceberg. Sugar consumption also contributes to hypertension, skin problems, dementia, hormone imbalances, infertility, depression and so much more.

In fact, when you quit sugar interesting things start to happen to your body. You actually go through withdrawal just like a junkie getting off of drugs!

Kicking the Sugar Habit

When you make the decision to cut sugar out of your diet, you will notice a few things happen:

  • Intense cravings
  • Headaches
  • Body aches
  • “The shakes”
  • Exhaustion
  • Irritabilitysugar withdrawal

These symptoms will last for 2 whole weeks! But if you can make it through that hump you will come out on the other side healthier, happier, skinnier and with a clear head!

Call us crazy, but food shouldn’t have this kind of effect on us! There is literally no positive argument for sugar, and just about every argument against it. Break the addiction NOW!
